Fat Girls in L. A. Book 2:
The Rise of Ginny Cooper

My novel "All About Vee" began its life as "Fat Girls in L. A." and was much larger. Due to its length and its divided focus on 3 friends - the Vees - it had to be cut down by publisher's request. However, the other Vees were never far from my mind and demanded that their stories be told.  I bring you the second story in the "Fat Girls" trilogy, "The Rise of Ginny Cooper."

On 4 Mondays in the month of January 2010 "The Rise of Ginny Cooper" was made available at  The Story Siren Website in 4 parts. I wanted to thank The Story Siren herself, Kristi who made that 4 part release possible. Not sure exactly sure where you will see Ginny next but stay tuned.

For everyone who is, was, or imagined herself to be, a Fat Girl...

Part 1

“If you look off to the right, you can see the Hollywood sign,” he told her. “Sort of back there, over your shoulder.”
As she did so, Ginny caught a glimpse of a sleeping bag in Donny’s backseat. Seriously, all the details seemed to be pointing in a single direction but how to ask such a personal question of someone she hardly knew?
“Donny…”
“Cool, huh?”
“What’s that?”
“The sign. You know it used to say ‘Hollywoodland,’ right?”
“Oh, uh…”
“A girl jumped off it, they say.” Donny snorted sarcastically. “I’ll bet they pushed her. It’s all about power, man. This town is filled with people who want to keep power all to themselves.”
“Oh. Right.”
“Or maybe it was drugs. Lotta drugs in this town.”
“Donny--”
“The business just eats people up and spits them out and there’s always someone new to take their place--”
“Donny!”
“Huh?”
“Are you living in your car?”
For a split second, Donny’s face registered fear - fear that she had found him out - and then he quickly recovered.
“Shit, no, Ginny. Why would you say that?”
